Education Navigator

CHA will be hiring three College Navigators as part of a two-year demonstration program with HUD, called ROSS for Education.

 CHA’s Education Navigator will support 250 CHA youth living in public housing with college access counseling in both group and individual settings. Youth served will be between the ages of 15 to 20 from public housing. Support of an Education Navigator enhances the ability CHA students to graduate from high school and enroll in post-secondary opportunities by bringing together resources, financial aid (including CHA’s Scholarship and Partners in Education program) and services.

 SUMMARY OF PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Specific responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:

·         Oversee the implementation of all related post-secondary access activities for students and parents at assigned CHA public housing developments.

·         Coordinate recruitment of students and parents and organize logistics for regular service at assigned public housing developments and local schools.

·         Perform an annual intake with program students creating specific, measurable goals towards their post-secondary education attainment.

·         Guide students and families through program selection, financial aid and post-secondary application processes based on their age and stage in education. Individual family support on financial aid and financial literacy will be key program goal.

·         Organize group activities for program youth including college tours, workshops, after school, Saturday and summer activities for students and their families.

·         Work collaboratively and communicate regularly with CHA case managers and school personnel to align and deliver program to meet grant goals.

·         Maintain documentation, monthly calendars and progress reports for all activities. Manage the collection of documentation, data and paperwork as required by the grant.

·         Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

·         Academic Level: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.

·         Industry Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of work experience in education, social work, or related field providing academic, social, and personal support to adolescents and/or adults required.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

·         Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and commitment to the needs of parents and students in schools serving low-income, and immigrant and diverse populations required.

·         Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation skills.

·         Knowledge and sensitivity to increase student achievement in an urban community required.

·         Experience in working with collaborative processes and structures required.

·         Computer proficiency required, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

·         Position requires a valid driver’s license.

·         Position occasionally requires working hours outside of CHA’s established hours of 8 AM-5 PM Monday-Friday.
