Foreign Policy, Communications, and Delegation Planning Internships

The Center for Democracy in the Americas (CDA) is a non-partisan 501(c)(3) not-for-profit institution that promotes a U.S. policy toward Cuba based on engagement and recognition of Cuba’s sovereignty and relations with Latin America based on mutual respect. Since its founding in 2006, CDA has stood for the proposition that normalized relations with Cuba is in the U.S. national interest and that normalization offers the best opportunity for Cubans to write the next chapter in their own country’s future.

CDA offers seasonal internship positions (Fall, Spring, and Summer) for qualified undergraduate candidates. CDA interns work with senior staff – working to change Cuba policy with Members of Congress, planning trips, and communicating our goals with policymakers and the public. In addition to substantive work, interns are also assigned essential administrative duties that build the nuts-and-bolts skills necessary to run a nonprofit organization.

The intern will be selected based on knowledge of Latin America policy and history, work experience, Spanish language and computer skills, and academic performance. Preference is given to those candidates who are available to work at least 25 hours per week.

Below you will find a description of the kind of candidate we are seeking. We would like interns who are available to begin working in mid-May or June, and last three to four months. Internships are unpaid, but CDA does provide a stipend to interns to help cover transportation costs.

We will be accepting applications on a rolling basis until March 15th.

We offer internships in three areas: Policy and Advocacy; Communications and Social Media; and Travel Planning and Coordination.

At the end of the internship, CDA will complete any evaluations or paperwork necessary for the intern to receive academic credit for their work.
