Estimating & Process Engineer

Role and Responsibilities

The Estimating & Process Engineer is responsible for providing process/part modeling as well as material & labor usage calculations for quoting of metal finishing process, development and realization of plating processes for production plating lines, and the implementation of new plating technologies, equipment and chemistries. The position entails cradle to grave engineering support to the realization of new products within a technically-oriented metal finishing facility. The position blends cost modeling & theory with process development and realization on the manufacturing floor.

The Estimating & Process engineer will be required to:

Cost Model:

·       Review, interpret and analyze quote requests, blue prints and material/finishing specifications. Follow up with customers for supporting information if required.

·       Calculate material and labor usage through part and process modeling

·       Provide engineering and process planning support during full product realization cycle. Interface with customers for supporting/additional information when required for development of sample, first article or full production processes

·       Provide engineering design support and interface with customers for supporting information when required for development of R&D and production tooling, custom masking and fixtures.

·       Coordinates and interacts with outsides resources, i.e. vendors, for the support of processes/equipment

·       Provide technical sales support to customer inquiries regarding metal finishing process application and capabilities for new products, designs and applications

·       Meet with customers to discuss new projects or metal finishing applications and develop processes and testing of same

·       Participate in trade shows and customer visits, supporting the sales effort of APT

 

 Process Development/Control:

·       Development of plating processes for production lines and planning/programming of processes within company ERP system.

·       Document all applicable procedures, work instructions, and other engineering documentation

·        Establish, analyze, and implement measures of performance related to processes and process improvement

 

Other:

·       Provides support and technical expertise to production and other support departments, makes decisions on dispositions of non-conforming product

·       Keeps up to date with technologies and plating processes, research same for utilization on current/future plating applications

·       Oversee and carry out special engineering-related projects as assigned

Qualifications and Education Requirements

The well qualified candidate should have a BS in chemical, electrical, mechanical or materials engineering. The candidate should have advanced knowledge and mastery of MS Excel. No engineering or sales experience is required. Background in information technologies including networking, Unix, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Access and CAD design is preferred.      

Preferred Skills

Highly organized, detail oriented with motivation for sales-oriented and hands-on engineering and process support. Excellent written and good verbal communicator in a customer service role. Energetic and outgoing self-starter that possesses the ability to work with minimal supervision.  

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and walk distances of up to 100 meters between buildings out of doors. The employee will spend extensive time computing and talking on the telephone. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be in a climate controlled, office environment approximately 75% of the time. The balance of time will be in a metal finishing manufacturing environment around metal finishing processes and equipment.
