Traverse City DDA/BATA Summer 2018 Planning Internship

The Traverse City Downtown Development Authority, in partnership with the Bay Area Transit Authority (BATA) seeks a summer Planning Intern. The intern will split his/her time between the DDA and BATA working on various planning projects throughout Traverse City. 

Essential Job Functions within the DDA role:

Pedestrian counts, parking inventory, Farmers Market data gathering
Assist with Quarterly Retail Report
Database updates and business inventory (door-to-door work)
Assist with Downtown summer events (Friday Night Live, Art Fairs, Downtown Annual Dinner)
Minor video editing for instructional videos
Help with public improvement projects that pertain to the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Plans in Downtown Traverse City

Essential Job Functions with the BATA role:

Crafting a social media campaign (Facebook, Instagram)
Transit stop inventory (transit stop amenities, lighting, sidewalks, shade, traffic patterns, etc)
Marketing & brochure drop-offs (to villages, organizations, City government, etc)
Riding the routes/talking to patrons and familiarizing yourself with the transit routes and customers by riding
Assisting with Downtown Loop/Bayline promotions
Assisting with Summer 2018 Customer Satisfaction Survey
BATA buddies coordination


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications:

College student working towards a degree in Urban and Regional Planning or similar field.
Ability to use a personal computer and mobile computing devices
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and iWork programs.
Knowledge of various social media platforms and how they function
Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions, and carry them out independently.
Able to lift up to 50 pounds and to walk distances of up to 25 yards with that weight frequently and regularly.
Able to stand and work from standing, bending and twisting position for durations of up to 4 hours

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Video editing
Graphic design
Familiarity with GSuite
