Aquatics Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

Great opportunity for an energetic, goal-orientated manager to supervise/direct the overall management of aquatics programs. Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.   Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.

2.   Final hiring of prescreened applicants provided by regional staff. Trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers on an ongoing basis. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Maintains payroll on a daily/every other day basis and approves staff payroll every other week.

3.   Addresses in a timely manner, all disciplinary, behavioral, and performance issues. Maintains all appropriate and necessary and written documentation.

4.   Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local, Ellis & Assoc. and YMCA health and safety regulations as well as current ADA guidelines.

5.   Maintain all Association and Ellis & Assoc. standards and guidelines while ensuring that updated documentation is met and available at all times.

6.   Along with Central Maintenance, conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance. Enters work orders into Facility Dude as soon as any maintenance issue is recognized.

7.   Conducts monthly in-services along with other LGIs on staff, vat drops and zone validations to ensure compliance with Jeff Ellis & Assoc. requirements.

8.   Ensures all YMCA Swims Instructor certifications remain current at all times.

9.   Conducts or assigns qualified staff to conduct trainings not limited to; lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR.

10. Creates and schedules (with assistance of Manager of Aquatic Programs) swim classes, water fitness classes, special populations and swim team practices, meets and other duties as assigned.

11. Works with Manager of Aquatic Programs to have all aquatics programming entered into Active. Private/Semi-Private bookings will be entered by Aquatics Manager/swim instructor.

12. Works with senior leadership in management of swim team, ensuring off-site locations are secured and all safety requirements are maintained.

13. Along with Manager of Aquatic Programs, assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

14. Develops and monitors program and staffing budget to meet fiscal objectives.

15. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.

16. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to
all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner (within one business day).

17. Participates as a member of the branch and program management team meetings.

18. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation
in program. Participates with staff team to ensure that target goals for annual membership & staff satisfactions surveys are met.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or related field.
  2. One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics coordinator or supervisor with focuses on creative program & staff development.
  3. Certifications in WSI/YSLI, CPR-Pro, AED, Emergency O2 and First Aid are required. Jeff Ellis & Assoc. lifeguard license, LGI is preferred, CPO certification; must obtain within 3 months of hire.
  4. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
