Public Health Lab Microbiology Unit Manager


About the Job:

The State Laboratory of Public Health in the Division of Public Health provides medical and environmental laboratory services (testing, consultation and training) to public and private health provider organizations responsible for the promotion, protection and assurance of the health of North Carolina citizens.
 

The Clinical and Reference Microbiology Manager is responsible for the administrative, technical and scientific management of the Microbiology Unit. The Unit is comprised of Clinical and Reference Bacteriology (Special Bacteriology, Atypical Bacteriology, and Enteric Bacteriology), Mycobacteriology, Parasitology, Mycology, and bacteriological Bioterrorism/Emerging Pathogens subspecialties.
 
The position will serve as the CLIA Technical Supervisor for the Unit and is responsible for the following: 
  • Selection of test methodology
  • Verification of test procedures and establishment of the laboratory's test performance characteristics,
  • Management of an approved proficiency testing program
  • Establishment of a quality management system within the Unit
  • Resolving technical problems and ensuring corrective actions following deviations in performance specifications
  • Managing training needs and assuring that all testing personnel receive routine in-service training and education.
  • Evaluating the competency of all testing personnel and assuring all personnel maintain competency consistent with CLIA requirements.
Education Requirement:  Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemistry, or biological science.
