AirDev Fellowship
AirDev is a new kind of design agency changing the face of software development. No longer are armies of engineers and managers needed to build sophisticated web applications. Instead, our products are created by well-rounded generalists who own entire projects start-to-finish and build dynamic applications without code. This unique “single-point” approach allows us to deliver personalized service, superior products, and business insights to our clients, all in a fraction of the time it takes conventional shops. In light of increasing demand for our services, we are looking to expand our team and bring on 2-4 fellows to learn the craft and build great products.
Who we are:
AirDev is a design consultancy specializing in ultra-rapid, full-service software development
We are run by Harvard Business School alumni with experience in management consulting, analytics, and product management
Our client list includes startups, non-profits, and top management consulting firms
The program:
The AirDev Fellowship is designed to offer young professionals a unique opportunity to learn a new technical skillset while gaining hands-on experience building real products for clients
We view the program as a way to forge a relationship that leads to a full-time position
We will teach you everything you need to know through an intensive training process building real web applications
Primary Fellow responsibilities include software development, product management, and user interface design; business development and general administrative tasks will also be required
Fellows will work directly with the AirDev founding partners on all engagements, and will have direct exposure to AirDev clients
The program is unpaid, but fellows will receive free lunch daily
By the end of the program, Fellows will be able to single-handedly construct dynamic applications comparable to Airbnb, Yelp, or Twitter in complexity
Schedule:
The Fellowship program lasts 6 weeks, from March 20 to April 28 (with some date flexibility)
- Applications are due Friday, Feb 10, and interviews will begin the following week
We are looking for Fellowship candidates who...
Are analytical heavyweights. While we don’t use code, designing software can be quite complex and requires strong conceptual and logical thinkers; experience with Excel or statistical software can be helpful (though not required)
Are hard-working. Our projects are often on tight deadlines, which means that we must be willing to put in the hours necessary to both climb up the learning curve and get work done
Are entrepreneurially-minded. While we provide training and guidance, we need individuals who take initiative and ownership of their assignments and learning
Can communicate clearly and work well in teams. Fellows will be expected to work directly with clients and with one another, so communication skills are a must
Enjoy intellectual and creative challenges. We often have to solve difficult problems, whether it’s how to construct a certain algorithm, build an interface, or structure a deal with a client
Haven't necessarily coded before. Prior dev experience isn't dismissed, but it isn't required
Have a sense for good design. We strive for products that are sharp and intuitive, so while no professional design experience is required, Fellows should have an intuition for user needs
Could start full-time after the program. Unfortunately this position doesn't work well for students or individuals with future commitments
Are nice. We don’t like to work with jerks
Typical responsibilities for AirDev Fellows will include...
Building web-building skills through our unique visual programming approach (we'll teach you everything you need to know)
Working directly with AirDev clients to understand their product vision and translate it into specifications
Creating design mockups to align on the optimal user flow for an upcoming project
Building fully-functional web applications for clients (with collaboration and feedback from the AirDev Partners)
- Working on strategic initiatives for AirDev, including marketing, business development, and community outreach
