Home Based Mental Health Therapist

Primary Purpose:

 

This is a professional position providing a wide range of services to children and their families when the children are at risk of out-of-home placement or hospitalization. Most clinical services will be provided in the children’s homes or in the community to stabilize and strengthen child/family functioning and/or to prevent or forestall placement. Treatment is time-limited. Staff in this position function with a great deal of professional autonomy under the supervision of the program supervisor.

 

Education and Experience Required:

 

1.       Master’s degree in psychology, social work or other related human services field required.

2.       Current license/certification in the State of Michigan required. Chauffer’s license preferred.

3.       At least one year experience with multiple major human service delivery systems (FIA, public health, education, etc.) preferred.

4.       At least one year of experience in the examination, evaluation, and treatment of minors is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

 

1.       Knowledge of theory and practice of individual, group, and family systems treatment.

2.       Competence in the delivery of crisis intervention services, and in brief and time-limited therapy.

3.       Development and Implementation of Individualized Plan of Service utilizing Person Centered Planning.

4.       Competency in performing, or willingness to learn, a wide range of treatment modalities that are individualized and person centered.

5.       Competence in the delivery of crisis intervention services, and in brief and time-limited therapy.

6.       Competency, or willingness to learn, co-occurring treatment of mental health, substance abuse and/or developmental disabilities.

7.       Must be computer literate.

8.       Ability to make critical decisions independent of immediate supervision.

9.       Knowledge of community resources and linkages.

10.     Ability to effectively, appropriately, and accurately communicate both orally and in writing.

11.     Ability to maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other staff members.

12.     Ability and willingness to abide by all SFS confidentiality policies

13.     Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.

14.     Ability, desire, and motivation to work cooperatively with the program leadership team, as well as, colleagues and all staff.

15.     Cultural sensitivity and competence in working with multi-cultural client populations.

16.     Must have reliable transportation in order to be able to meet with clients outside of the clinic setting.

17.     Must possess a current valid State of Michigan driver’s license which is insurable by our insurance carrier.

18.     Ability to maintain professional and ethical standards.

19.     Ability to work with all members of the community regardless of race, gender, age and cultural or ethnic backgrounds.

20.     Ability to work flexible hours as needed (i.e., some evenings or weekend work is required).

21.     Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner.

22.     Ability to meet productivity expectation as assigned by program supervisor.

 

Other Skills and Abilities Required:

 

The employee fulfilling this job is accountable to the assigned supervisor for completion of assignments and to the high standards of accuracy, attention to detail, and timely completion of work. Expectations include: a pleasant, empathetic, sensitive and professional demeanor, a positive attitude and a willing spirit. The employee must be willing to engage in professional development efforts as available to the position and required by management.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

 

1.       Maintain clinical charts in an accurate and timely manner to include, but not limited to assessments, treatment plans, and all other MDCH chart requirements.

2.       Maintain a caseload size and weekly productivity expectations as determined by supervisor.

3.       Provide individual, group, and family treatment for children with mental health and co-occurring disorders (developmental disabilities and/or substance abuse).

4.       Provide education, consultation, and case management services.

5.       Facilitate client access to other service delivery systems, e.g., D.S.S. special education, etc.

6.       Assure the coordination and integration of foregoing services with those provided by Starfish Family Services.

7.       Make intra-agency referrals for evaluations, consultation, and other services, e.g. parent education.

8.       Maintain cooperative working relationships with educational, legal, health, social welfare, and mental health systems.

9.       Secure relevant reports from and provides reports to the foregoing system.

10.     Participate in the planning, development, and evaluation of agency programs.

11.     Attend mandatory agency meetings, trainings and supervisions.

12.     Participate in professional development activities, including in-service training, peer review, external workshops, and seminars, etc.

13.     May participate in special projects, e.g. research, community education, etc.

14.     Cooperate in any investigation related to personnel, licensing, accreditation or other circumstances.

15.     Work cooperatively as a member of a team with program staff and community resources.

16.     Accept and emulate the mission of SFS.

17.     Must maintain professional and ethical standards at all times.

18.     Assist in finding and directing clients in case of an emergency such as a fire or tornado

18.   Adhere to all Lifespan policies and procedures as it relates to Documentation, Training requirements, CMH guidelines, and Confidentiality.

19.   Other duties assigned by site supervisor.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:   The successful candidate for this position will be required to provide 3 letters of recommendation, satisfactorily complete a drug screen, TB test, national and state background check and DHS clearance (additional items may be required dependent upon position).
