Network Engineer/Systems Engineer

Hedge Fund in NYC, a quantitatively based financial management firm, is looking for bright, outstanding software engineer who are interested in working in a stimulating and academic environment to implement and support software used in systematic trading. You would be joining a group of roughly one hundred fifty people, half of whom have Ph.D.s in scientific disciplines. We have a spectrum of opportunities for individuals with the right skills and aptitude. 

Applicants should be team players with a broad background in network and security technologies, experienced in enterprise operations, and have excellent troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to: deploying, supporting and troubleshooting the network infrastructure; documenting the IT infrastructure, policies and procedures; and performing general user support. Applicants are expected also to participate in after-hours work and an on-call rotation.

 

Required Skills:

•               Minimum 2 years of experience deploying and supporting scalable routed and switched network.

•               Hands-on experience with enterprise-class routers, switches, firewalls including Cisco and non-Cisco equipment.

•               Good understanding of network and routing protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, OSPF and BGP).

•               Excellent troubleshooting and creative problem-solving abilities, including packet-level traffic analysis.

•               Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

•               Bachelor's degree required.

Preferred Skills:

•               Experience with systems administration in an Linux and Windows enterprise environment.

•               Experience deploying and supporting open source and proprietary infrastructure services (BIND,

FreeRadius, OpenLDAP, DHCP, Kerberos).

•               Experience implementing, operating and supporting open source tools for network and security monitoring and management on UNIX/Linux platforms (e.g. mrtg, syslog-ng, xymon, snort/suricata/Bro, flowscan/SiLK).

•               Knowledge of scripting (perl, tcl, bash, ruby) to automate tasks.
