Sales Representative - Inside Sales

The Sales Representative’s primary responsibility will be huntin’ down and closin’ those merchants who have never worked with Groupon, or merchants who have not been recently featured on Groupon’s website. The Sales Representative will spend their time consulting with these new businesses over the phone and closing awesome deals while working with even more awesome merchants - changing the world one Groupon at a time. By utilizing a variety of Groupon's new services and products, sales representatives help businesses increase and calibrate customer traffic.

The sales role - based in our Chicago headquarters - is an entry-level inside sales position that quickly grows within this and other sales teams at Groupon. All reps will be ramped up with a progression of classroom and live practice to begin their sales journey. Once they establish a level of productivity and command of the role, our teams transition to focus on specific categories and more lucrative accounts.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Proactively seek out new business opportunities through cold calling to engage, consult, and close local deals
  • Develop familiarity with each merchant’s business, including but not limited to: products and/or services, consumer demographics, consumer ratings, points of competitive differentiation, merchant economic model, and revenue and profit drivers
  • Utilize knowledge of deal structure and strategy in order to reach Groupon’s and merchants’ desired outcomes and maximize profit
  • Consistently achieve and/or exceed sales targets
  • Interface with Merchant Development to ensure a seamless transition of accounts and align on merchant strategy
  • Drive market growth for both quality of merchants and revenue

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Entry level or 1+ years of proven success in a sales environment
  • Experience selling over the phone and cold calling various types of businesses, local merchants a plus
  • A balance of coachability and confidence that makes people jealous at how great of a person you are
  • You are adaptable and can think on your feet - when faced with new challenges, or tough conversations, failure simply isn't an option
  • You hold yourself accountable and balance multiple priorities like a tyrannosaurus rex on a tightrope
  • You have a desire to learn and develop sales skills within an ever-changing sales organization, and are always looking for ways to improve
  • You are committed to a high standard of integrity and work ethic
  • You’re an excellent listener, assertive, persistent, and persuasive
  • You are genuinely curious about people, local businesses, and possess the innate ability to inspire passion in others
