Chemical Engineer (Electrochemistry)

CFDRC is currently seeking highly motivated individuals with a strong background in electrochemical power sources, electrochemistry, and or general surface chemistry.   Position will design, execute and analyze data in a laboratory environment - including extensive work in a glovebox.   Candidate will help develop next generation battery technology for thermal batteries and solid electrolyte batteries.  

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Synthesize and process battery materials (electrodes and electrolytes)
  • Perform hardware assembly, setup, and instrument calibration to test, characterize, and evaluate the performance of novel materials and electrodes for batteries
  • Use fundamental and applied electrochemistry concepts to understand and propose battery technology solutions
  • Implement previously developed test methods and processes, investigate improvements and modifications, validate and document new processes
  • Maintain orderly laboratory facilities, identify component vendors, compile and track purchase orders, monitor equipment status and inventory levels for supplies

The position will work closely with CFDRC's research team and the government customer to support development and modification of Thermal Battery Technology.  Candidate will have the opportunity to do hands on lab work using state of the art equipment as well as analyzing and presenting results directly to engineering and customer teams.  

Requirements:

Position will require a Master's Degree in Chemical, Materials, Systems Engineering or related technical field (experience can be substituted for graduate degree).  Prior experience performing general experimental operations and testing, specifically using data acquisition hardware and software as it relates to battery performance is required. Candidate must be familiar and experienced with working in a glovebox.  Position will require candidate to be a US Citizen and meet eligibility for a Secret Clearance.  

Preferred candidate will possess a secret clearance.   Candidate should demonstrate good communication skills, both oral and written, to prepare summaries, graphs and other material to document test results. Exposure to working directly with DoD customers on S&T programs is preferred.
