POSITION PURPOSE
- The Purchasing Assistant will be responsible for packaging design; packaging standardization, and manufacturing specifications; coordinating, planning, and purchasing materials used in manufacturing operations.
- Also responsible for procurement of other direct product raw materials such as adhesives, inks, and other specific manufacturing or office supplies.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Analyze data and product specifications to establish best pack out and develops packaging specifications
- Work with JBM sales and manufacturing to create and maintain manufacturing specifications for all products.
- Create and maintain pallet configurations.
- Facilitate the development of all pack standards to ensure customer expectations, manufacturing capabilities and internal packaging material data base are consistent
- Create and maintain raw material packaging parts master data.
- Process manufacturing orders with correct packaging item numbers and appropriate packaging notes when required
- Distribute manufacturing orders to the appropriate work areas in the plant once packaging approval completed
- Responsible for carton bid, carton vendor communication and maintains information
- Request quotes for raw materials and work with vendors on art approval if applicable
- Order raw materials to ensure appropriate inventory levels, using internal reporting to determine on hand and known packaging, adhesive, and ink material requirements
- Manage, prioritize and communicate workload priorities with outside vendors
- Communicate status to manufacturing of order materials needed for scheduled manufacturing orders.
- Coordinate internal efforts at JBM as it relates to procured material quality, service levels, pricing or quantity differences.
- Participate in weekly, monthly, quarterly physical counts with various materials as required.
- Manage current Kanban systems related to various manufacturing supplies.
- Maintain documentation in Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) resource.
- Function as a backup during absences for the following tasks:
- Paper procurement, and related costing quotes
- Daily production reporting when receptionist out of office
- Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
Education
- Associates degree and 2-3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
- A minimum of 2-3 years relevant/successful experience
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
