Senior Full Stack Engineer/Generalist

. At the organizational level, IHA has been around for over 20 years, has 15 employees and is located in Oakland, California.

About the Job:

We’re looking for a senior software engineer to join our data team onsite. As a member of our small team (one other developer and one data analyst), you will get the opportunity to work on many different projects and contribute directly to our success as an organization. You will be able to choose the right tools for the job, and have ownership over the technical sides of our products. At a high level, the goal of your work at IHA is to leverage your engineering skills to improve healthcare outcomes for Californians. The direct impact this position can make is substantial.

In this position you will:

  • Collaborate on product and architectural decisions

  • Plan, scope, design, implement, document, support and monitor features

  • Write code most days - new features, bug fixes, infrastructure, internal tools, etc.

  • Provide feedback to team members and senior management so that IHA can remain nimble, capable, and relevant to industry.

You have many of the following:

  • 4-5 years of software engineering experience, although we care more about the quality of your work than the quantity.

  • Experience working on a small team and the desire to be helpful in any way needed to support the team, product, and organization.

  • Frontend web development experience

    • You can translate and refine an idea into requirements, and in turn translate those requirements into wireframes which you then implement.

    • You have experience building Single Page Applications (SPA) using technologies such as react/redux, or angular.js.

  • Backend web development experience

    • Python (bonus for Django experience)

  • Dev Ops experience

    • We have several products, some of which are hosted on EC2 instances managed with Ansible and others that are hosted on Heroku

  • Database development / management, data wrangling experience

    • You’ve created databases from scratch, designing the models and implementing a data loading pipeline to populate the database.

    • You can write queries in SQL, and have managed data migrations. We use postgres, and manipulate CSV files using python (pandas, numpy).

Bonus if you have:

  • Demonstrated project management skills, working on complex projects involving a variety of stakeholders

  • Knowledge of healthcare data and performance measurement

  • Strong Statistical Analysis and Data Visualization Skills (D3, Excel, Tableau)

  • Knowledge of the Agile process and use of related tools (Confluence, Phabricator, etc.)

  • Unix Experience
