The Department of the Army Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students currently enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work and get paid while exploring federal careers through a job with the Department of the Army.

Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Pathways Intern Program. Visit our website for more information on Pathways program participation. The Department of the Army Pathways Interns may be converted to a permanent position within 120 days of successful completion of the program.  

This intern position is designed to prepare a student trainee for employment after graduation as an Engineer, GS-0800-11, or Physical Scientist, GS-1301-11. Interns will be assigned to one or more higher graded specialists who will assign tasks designed to increase familiarity with the target occupation, in a real world work environment.

This opportunity follows a standard promotional path:

 
Internship at the GS-04 or GSl-05 with the full performance grade of GS-05. After completion of Internship requirements, conversion to the entry level for the target occupation of position with progression to the GS-11.  

Positions are open to current students pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution.

Duties

Performs duties at the first-level of a formalized engineering and science training program with assignments designed to orient, train, and increase your knowledge of engineering, physical science, mathematics, electrical phenomena and the principles, techniques, and practices. You will perform a variety of engineering or scientific tasks involving responsibility for carrying out a sequence of prescribed operations related to a wide range of engineering and/or scientific work situations in support of information technology development and network engineering.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this internship for the GS-04 is enrolled as a Sophomore or Junior in a baccalaureate program, and has a major directly related to engineering or physical science. The ideal candidate for the GS-05 level is enrolled for a graduate or higher degree program, and has a major directly related to engineering or physical science. The ideal candidate will have excellent grades and a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Strong candidates will have academic experience related to engineering or physical science.

To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-04, students must have completed two full academic years of post-high school study, or have an associate's degree. Two full academic years is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university, or school to represent two years of full-time study.

To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-05, students must have completed four academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. An academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university.
