Medical Technician/Medical Assistant

Grade/Position:  Grade III – Medical Assistant

The Current Assignment for this Job Opening is: St. Clair County Community Mental Health Authority – Medical/Nursing Services 

Starting Salary: $15.74 per hour                                                                                                                                
 
Hours/Schedule: 28 hours per week – Regular Part Time (Actual total hours not guaranteed)
                                                                                                                                                                       
Essential Functions:
An employee in this classification is required to perform some or all of the following duties, however these do not include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform: Review all progress notes; Notify team members of any significant/important issues from Med Review or Psychiatric Evaluation; Prepare charts/case records for Med Review and Psychiatric Evaluation; Review the “therapeutic focus/intervention plan/treatment plan” section(s) after dictation and follow up with case manager/supports coordinator and alert any follow up needs; Medical Records management; Complete prior authorizations; Data entry (may include electronic prescriptions): Complete Patient Assistance Program Applications: Interface with case-holder/clinician to obtain and communicate recommendations/information/ Make reminder contacts to people receiving services for next appointment; Read labs (alert Dr./flag chart with any abnormal lab results); Coordinate with pharmacy for prescriptions; Accompany people receiving services to and from Dr./RN’s office area; Vital signs (i.e. blood pressure, weight, temperature, waist circumference, calculate BMI); comply with Alcohol & Drug Testing Policy (06-001-0010) and Background Check Policy (06-001-0015), as well as supervisors/designee directives; maintain confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications:
(an employee in this class, upon appointment, must have the following credentials, training, and experience)
 Technical Skills
Education:
- High School Diploma
- Graduation from an accredited medical education program
Licensure:
- Certification from a recognized medical education program
- Valid Michigan Driver's License
Experience/Skills:
- Knowledge of current Medical Assistant methods and practices
- One to two years experience in job related field
- Knowledge of Medicaid and Medicare insurances
- Demonstration of ability to use Word software and Windows 7
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Medical law and ethics training
- Inventory control
Other:
- If using Agency vehicles, passing random drug and alcohol screening

Technical Skills
Experience/Skills:
- Demonstration of Proficiency and Experience Working on a Electronic Health Record System
- Knowledge of CMH system and operations
- Ability to work in a team setting
- Effective communication skills; good verbal and writing skills
- Lived experience with behavioral health issues

Applicants that meet the Authority's initial screening may be subject to a pre-interview test lasting up to two (2) hours.
 
Any offer of employment is contingent upon a Criminal Background Check, as well as a 5 Panel Drug Screen. Potential candidates will be sent to Industrial Health Service for a screening at their own expense ($29). When results are negative for the drug screen, the candidate will then be reimbursed the cost of the screening.
