Position Summary:

The Director for Data Analytics is responsible for leading College data analytics under the guidance and direction of the Sr. Associate Dean for Finance & Administration. Using data science to inform the College, the position requires continuous innovative thinking to leverage college and university data as an asset to improve performance and inform decision making. The director will work with and respond to CAS departments, and central offices (including Institutional Analysis) to meet analytic needs.

The director will be required to synthesize technical concepts and findings into actionable insights that drive strategic and operational change, particularly in the area of financial decision making and academic planning. This will include developing decanal-level reports and analyses that study and identify trends through statistical techniques and predictive analytics, from a variety of applications and database systems, which often require connecting data between numerous internal and external datasets in structured and unstructured formats. Samples of analytical reports may be break-even analysis, what-if scenarios, and forecasting.

The director will review existing data systems and storage in the College and replace/retire/update as necessary. He/she will explore opportunities to partner with central offices to responsibly access central data sources to assist CAS units to access and utilize accurate and timely information for efficient and effective work flow.

The director will ensure proper usage and deployment of analytical reports through training & workshops for CAS departments and compliance with UB data governance standards. Identifying areas of opportunity where new analytical reports are needed, and working with the dean, assistant & associate deans, and departments chairs and staff is necessary.

The director will monitor national trends in higher education data analytics and evaluate College forecasting.  


Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in a relevant field, but will consider a combination of education and experience equivalency.

Seven to ten years of work experience in institutional research or related field such as assessment, insitutional effectiveness or data analysis including capture, analysis, and presentation of information in support of institutional research efforts, as well as the rapid creation of ad-hoc queries utilizing modern desktop database tools to further support executive inquiry. Proven leadership on projects and directing staff. Strong oral and written communication skills are required as well as the ability to be productive & creative working with a diverse team.


Salary Range:  Salary will be commensurate with experience.
