Media Specialist - Middle School Level

LOCATIONS:  Bloomfield Hills Middle School, East Hills Middle School, West Hills Middle School 


QUALIFICATIONS

●    Must possess a valid Michigan teacher certificate with an ND endorsement (Library Media)

●    Maintain lesson plans and design appropriate instruction covering the tech standards and         areas of Informational Literacy and Digital Citizenship

●    Promote technology usage within the building

●    Collaborate with teachers in the design of instructional units and lessons

●    Establish goals for the library/media program at the middle school and upper elementary level   across three buildings appropriate to the setting and students served

●    Coordinate media practices/protocols and resources in all Middle Schools

●    Create an engaging atmosphere that actively celebrates knowledge sharing, collaboration,          exploration, and access to physical and intellectual resources

●    Maintain and extend the library collection (printed and online resources) in accordance with   the needs of the schools at the middle and upper elementary level and within budget              guidelines

●    Actively align and manage library collection to support current learning needs of staff and          students across three campuses

JOB SUMMARY

 

It is the basic objective of Media Specialist to provide accessible tools for students and staff to direct, enhance, and support the learning process. Knowledge of upper elementary and middle school curricular areas is essential in order to serve the interdisciplinary needs of the learning community.


Role and Responsibilities

●     Work and maintain a flexible and collaborative media center environment for students,              families, teachers, and staff

●     Teach and/or facilitate the development of media literacy skills to students and staff (including   dedicated media time particularly at the upper elementary level)

●     Maintain the virtual and print collections of the media center

●     Support curriculum management (including but not limited to Moodle and/or the equivalent)

●     Support the development of global competency and other inclusion and equity resources           within the school community

●     Create exciting literacy programming (including but not limited to author visits, partnerships   with community libraries, and school wide book fairs)

●     Act as the liaison with IT for all hardware and software technology needs at the middle level   (including but not limited to Promethean Boards, iPads and Applications, Google Suites and   Chromebooks, computer labs, and other technology tools and resources)

●     Supervise paraprofessional media center tech support at each middle school building

●     Building resource leader for copyright, fair-use, and information ethics

●     Ability to demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with students, staff, and parents.

●     Ability to organize, catalogue, display, distribute and produce instructional materials.

●     Ability to select and provide access to a wide variety of materials which meet the needs of           various learning situations.

●     Knowledge and ability to teach information and technology literacy needed for independent   learning.

●     Ability to provide an environment conducive to quick accessibility, good study habits, and   development of proficient media users.

●     Knowledge of civil rights relating to free access to materials and copyright laws.

●     Ability to be flexible in order to accommodate teachers, students, parents/guardians, and      community members.

●     Knowledge and ability to work with technology and assist integration in the classroom.
