Youth Education/Music

The Youth Education/Music Intern assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of educational activities for youth, from infant to age 12, during the Chautauqua summer season. This individual performs a variety of functions to support the quality of Lakeside Chautauqua’s youth education programs. The Youth Education/Music Intern reports directly to the Director of Educational Programming.

 

The ideal candidate is a second or third-year undergraduate majoring in early childhood or middle grades education, as well as those with extensive experience leading and teaching groups of children. Strong skills in planning and implementing engaging lessons and managing groups of children are imperative.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES (PLUS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED):

 

Youth Programming:

  • Coordinate weekly science program (ages 4-12)

  • Plan and implement two lessons per week with art focus (ages 7-12)

  • Provide assistance to the following youth education programs:

  • “Where in the Word” geography/culture program (ages 6-9)

  •  “Fun with Music” (ages 4-7) and “Ring & Sing” (ages 8+)

  • “Fun with Books” (ages 0-5)

  • “The Fine Print Bookstore Special Events” (ages 3-7)

  • “Solar Astronomy” program (all ages)

  • Provide a safe environment for children participating in youth education programs

 

Administrative:

  • Assist in coordinating childcare for the West Ohio Conference (three-day event in early June)

  • Prepare marketing materials to promote youth education programs

  • Develop social media content, including blog posts to promote youth education programs

  • Maintain attendance records for all summer youth education programs

  • Edit content of ‘Children & Youth’ page of weekly Lakesider newspaper

  • Assist with publicity for programs and evaluation of outcomes

  • Assist with additional programs and special events organized by the Education Department

  • Participate in all LLA activities, forums and gatherings

  • Make an oral presentation to the Lakeside Chautauqua staff regarding summer internship experience
