Educational Events Programming

The Educational Programming Intern assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Chautauqua Lecture Series. In addition, the intern performs a variety of functions to support the quality of Lakeside's educational programs. The Educational Programming Intern reports directly to the Director of Educational Programming.

 

The ideal candidate is a second or third-year undergraduate majoring in history, political science, secondary education or communications, although all majors are considered. Strong skills in writing, public speaking, event planning and set-up of audiovisual equipment are imperative.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES (PLUS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED):

 

Event Planning:

  • Organize speaker contracts and corresponding documents; follow-through on missing information

  • Prepare final confirmations for speakers and answer questions prior to their arrival

  • Prepare welcome packets for each speaker

  • Write Education Department content for weekly Lakesider newspaper

  • Organize lecture room to meet the needs of each lecture (seating, audiovisual materials, etc.) and reset room at conclusion of each day

  • Greet and assist speakers in set-up of audiovisual equipment, troubleshooting as necessary

  • Monitor lectures and assist speakers/attendees as needed

  • Coordinate all aspects of the weekly Foreign Affairs Forum (audiovisual needs, handouts, audience participation)

  • Assist in coordination of additional programs and special events organized by the Education Department
    (Hoover Education Lecture, Symphony Pre-Concert Talks, etc.)

  • Manage registration for weekly Special Workshops

 

Communication & Marketing:

  • Prepare marketing information (press releases, targeted marketing, brochures, signs, etc.) to promote lectures

  • Develop social media content, including blog posts to promote the Education Department

  • Prepare lecture handouts and evaluation forms

  • Take photographs of lecturers and education programs; maintain picture database

  • Prepare and present professional speaker introductions

  • Manage lecture documents (PowerPoint slides, handouts, recommended reading) for website

 

Administration:

  • Track attendance and summarize evaluations for each lecture

  • Provide first-line service recovery to speakers or guests who express dissatisfaction

  • Update database of Chautauqua Lecture Series speakers and topics with current information

 

Additional:

  • Assist with childcare for the West Ohio Conference (three-day event in early June)

  • Offer suggestions for educational program improvements

  • Participate in all LLA activities, forums and gatherings

  • Make an oral presentation to the Lakeside Chautauqua staff regarding summer internship experience
