Associate Program Director – The Philanthropy Lab
Program Overview
Once Upon A Time, a private foundation based in Fort Worth, Texas, is looking for an Associate Program Director for its Philanthropy Lab Initiative. The current Program Director is likely leaving in the next year, and, while not guaranteed, the Associate Program Director will be the logical front runner to fill this position.
The Philanthropy Lab is a national educational program focused on expanding
philanthropy education at leading U.S. universities. Started in 2011, The
Philanthropy Lab thus far has given over $5 million to build philanthropy
education at 22 major universities including Harvard, Stanford, UCLA, the
University of Virginia, and Northwestern. The primary goal of the Philanthropy
Lab is to ignite students’ interest and participation in philanthropy. If you

Responsibilities
The Associate Program Director of the
Philanthropy Lab is responsible for assisting the Program Director in the
administration of the current program and future expansion of the program. The
role entails a wide range of responsibilities, is dynamic and evolving, and involves
coordination across a broad group of stakeholders including the program funder,
the partner universities, and current and former students. The Associate
Program Director is also responsible for supporting the President of Once Upon
A Time (OUAT) with the broader work of the Foundation.
This will be a full-time position of
approximately 50 hours a week and may periodically include travel. Flexibility
in schedule is important.
Specific responsibilities may include,
but are not limited to:
- Working with
partner universities to administer the grants
- Keeping the program
funder updated on progress of the initiative and any items of particular interest
at different universities
- Coordinating an
annual gathering in Fort Worth in which the participating professors and
program funder meet
- Organizing and
facilitating our annual Ambassadors Conference in Dallas for course alumni from
each of our partner universities
- Identifying,
developing, implementing, and evaluating various student engagement initiatives
- Managing the
program budget
- Maintaining and
updating the program’s website
- Developing and
maintaining the program’s social media presence
- Working with
outside experts to effectively evaluate the program
- Coordinating
expansion to additional universities
- Assisting with OUAT’s work, including but not limited
to: writing grant letters to grant recipients, maintaining financial records,
creating annual board reports, and completing additional projects as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s
and/or Master’s degree with strong academic performance
- Job/internship experience in a nonprofit, foundation, or government
office
- Ability to travel as needed
- Willingness to make a minimum two-year commitment to the position
- Participation in a Philanthropy Lab course is NOT required but could be
helpful, and any current students in Philanthropy Lab courses will be given
strong consideration
Compensation
Compensation will be an increase of up to 10% over current, depending on experience, plus full benefits.
