HR Internship

Human Resources Internship

Location: Ann Arbor, MI

General Summary

This position will report to the Manager, Organizational Development & Training as well as collaborate and support the other HR team members with various projects. The Human Resource Intern must be a self-starter and prepared for hands on exposure to many functions of the Human Resource department. The successful candidate will take quick direction and initiative, have a foundation in human resources, and demonstrate business acumen at all times.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with administrative duties i.e. record-keeping, filing, drafting communications, mail, etc.
  • Assist with collecting and writing job descriptions for various departments
  • Prepare and maintain employee records and department related documents while following thorough tracking and filing processes
  • Participate in department meetings and other meetings/seminars and generate, as needed, materials for department initiatives
  • Assist in maintaining the company’s compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment via labor and employment law research
  • Assist with various HR projects
  • Facilitates/supports Business Unit administrative projects/programs (e.g. annual programs, rollouts, and policies) and day-to-day operations
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four year college or university with a major in human resources, business, communications or related field. Must have completed at least two years of college and provide for the following:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and email etiquette
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal and communication skills; ability to professionally and confidently interact with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team oriented environment
  • Possession of excellent organizational, follow-up, and follow through skills
  • Knowledge of business correspondence, English, spelling, basic accounting and grammar
  • Ability to efficiently handle competing priorities and tasks, remain organized and meet deadlines
  • Ability to establish and maintain confidential and effective working relationships with supervisor, coworkers an management
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with a welcoming, cooperative and supportive demeanor
  • Ability to function within a matrix organization in which functional and business leaders have equal authority within the organization and employees report to both a functional leader and a business leader
