Research Associate, Global HealthcareAnn Arbor, MI 

We seek to hire a full-time, new addition to our Healthcare Initiative as "Research Associate." This entry-level position is based in our Ann Arbor, Michigan office. This position will be available in early January 2017; however, a later start date is negotiable. The employer is the William Davidson Institute at the University of Michigan (or "WDI"). WDI is a small, independent, non-profit research and educational institute temporarily located at Domino's Farms HQ. We will be relocating to our "home" on the central campus of the University of Michigan in the spring of 2017.

 

Summary:  This position will contribute to WDI’s work in improving healthcare (supply chains, etc.) in emerging markets by supporting a portfolio of policy advisory services, practice-focused research, and pilot implementations.

 

Job Duties:

  • Conduct data and statistical analysis to better understand global healthcare and medicine supply chains (and other focus areas as required by WDI) including:
    • Build quantitative models, simulations, and business-oriented statistical analysis tools
    • Implement and coordinate the collection of qualitative and quantitative field data
  • Conduct research that furthers the intellectual development of the global health supply chain field (etc.), drawing upon literature reviews, stakeholder interviews, quantitative evidence, and outside technical expertise to develop and communicate new supply chain insights and methodologies.
  • Regularly utilize discretion and independent judgment to: (a) manage external subcontractor budget on behalf of WDI, and (b) provide technical oversight and ensure satisfactory completion of technical deliverables on behalf of WDI
  • Build and maintain productive working relationships with external parties, partners, etc., to further WDI organizational goals and ensure positive business outcomes:
    • Coordinate stakeholder and knowledge exchange
    • Make presentations of findings to funders and country level stakeholders, etc.
    • Succinctly convey technical and quantitative information to a range of audiences, in technical, policy, and business environments
  • Participate in the short-term and long-term work planning for project management of healthcare work for proposals, work plans, and re-planning and re-budgeting to include:
    • Support internal team coordination on project management related to staffing, financial utilization, and portfolio pipeline tracking
    • Set clear project scope, priorities, and deliverables
    • Develop and managing project budgets and timelines
    • Manage performance of sub-contracted workstreams
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; this may include WDI’s other focus areas.

 

Necessary Candidate Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in economics, engineering, supply chain management or logistics, or a related field
  • Have a thorough understanding of international development issues related to rapid changes taking place in global healthcare markets
  • Proficiency in managing large data sets, cleaning and organizing data sets, and able to provide reports in a clear and organized manner
  • Superior verbal and written English communication skills, presentation skills, critical thinking skills, successful interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to pay exceptional attention to details
  • Has flexibility, and an ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
  • Self-motivated, committed to delivering high-value work, and able to collaborate and contribute as a team member
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally to emerging markets as needed, and a demonstrated multicultural awareness/sensitivity
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Excel & PowerPoint

 

Qualifications May Be a Plus:

  • Any relevant experience (volunteer or paid) in global public health supply chains, global healthcare, global pharmaceutical market, market or data analysis, etc.
  • Ability to speak a foreign language fluently
