The Charge Nurse is responsible for:

  • The immediate direction and supervision of nursing care provided to residents on his or her shift. 
  • Assessing resident care needs and supervising nurse assistants in attending to resident care needs. 
  • Assigning responsibility to nurse assistants for the direct nursing care of specific residents during the shift, supervising all documentation, writing original resident care plan, updating the plan as the needs of the resident change and prepare care plans for the interdisciplinary conferences. 
  • Record all changes in resident’s condition on the progress notes and maintain nurse’s records, pass medications, count narcotics at the change of shift and ensure that all the treatments prescribed by the physician are completed per the order. 
  • Making frequent rounds during the shift to ensure that residents are properly dressed, bathed, shaved, turned, positioned, etc. and will report incidents, accidents, changes in condition, family complaints, physical plant problems, etc. 
  • Assist nurse assistants with bedside care as necessary and inform families of changes in resident condition, accident or medication orders, on a timely basis. 
  • Maintain a good rapport with families and/or patient representatives.

 

This is a critical role in our organization.  To qualify, you must have graduated from an accredited school of nursing and possess a valid State of Michigan license as a Registered Nurse. Previous long term care experience is required and experience in geriatric nursing is desired.
