Health Data Analyst Intern 

Job Summary

Working with cross-departmental teams, supports consulting efforts targeted at optimizing physician performance by conducting and promoting best practices related to analyses of health plan and clinical data, financial performance, medical and pharmacy claims, fee schedules as well as membership and provider data-sets. 

Essential Job Functions 

Working with cross-departmental teams, the Health Data Analyst Intern supports consulting efforts targeted at optimizing physician performance. The analyst must be able to: 

·   Printing, data management and participation in quarterly report creation process

·   Data entry

·   Small ad hoc and manual reports

·   Monthly data validation

·   Monthly data retrieval

·   Validation work on payments, quarterly reports, etc.

·   Assist in formatting reports (in Excel/Access)

·   Communicate and coordinate data questions/issues with health plans

·   Assist in the design of individual physician and group level financial and medical performance reports

·   Assist in the identification and reporting of patterns as well as anomalies within clinical and financial data

·   Deliver accurate and complete information under deadlines

·   Assist internal staff in interpretation of data and reports

·   Support analysts and database developers on analysis and modeling projects

·   Work on projects concurrently

·   Present analyses and other projects to the analytic team in a concise and professional manner

·   Continually enhance knowledge of health care industry dynamics and analytical processes

·   Routinely work with and ensure the integrity of federally protected health information

·   Perform other duties as assigned 

Core Competencies 

The Health Data Analyst Intern possesses data analysis skills and credentials, including: 

·   Associate’s degree or pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in an analytical, business, or health-related field

·   Experience with Microsoft Excel, pivot tables, Microsoft Access, other relational data analysis tools

·   Demonstrated quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills

·   Strong attention to detail and ability to validate own work

·   Ability to synthesize data into effective reporting formats

·   Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

·   Knowledge of health care delivery systems, claims data and medical terminology

Physical Activities and Working Conditions: 

·   Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time;

·   Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.

·   Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, delivering and using the telephone.

·   Able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

·   External: Health Plan representatives and analysts, physician organization leadership and analysts.
