Family Service Worker
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This is a professional position that works as a member of a team with program staff and community resources to provide a continuum of services to children and families. The employee strives to strengthen and preserve families. The person assist in identifying individual needs and providing and assisting in coordinating services to meet each family's needs. This person works under the supervision of the Family Community Partnership/Mental Health Specialist.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Inputs designated data into computer programs
Through the Family Service Assessment and Family Partnership Agreement, engages parents in identifying their needs, developing goals, overcoming barriers, and providing referrals
Informs parents/guardians of all program requirements upon registration
Advocates for children and families by assisting in the identification and coordination of support services
Provides support and crisis intervention with families and children
Plans and implements activities that teach parents/guardians child development/child management, nutrition education, health education, dental education, mental health education, use of community resources and other adult education activities
Coordinates recruitment, registration, screenings, enrollment and selection activities.
Intervenes and contacts parents when there are problems with attendance
Conducts home visits to provide support and/or meet families’ identified needs

Works in a collaborative effort with agency/community resources to provide wrap around and follow up services to families in order to strengthen and enable them to function independently, to improve their capacity to function as a healthy families, or if needed, to find appropriate alternatives for the care of the children
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS degree from four-year college or university in family support, psychology, sociology, family life, social work, early childhood or child development.
If degree is in early childhood or child development, must have at least 9 college credits in family support, psychology, sociology, social work or family life.
At least one year prior human service experience working with low-income children and families preferred.
