Body Systems Engineer - Trucks

We’re currently looking for a Body Systems Engineer-Trucks to join our team in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

Summary:
Responsible for the development of lower body structures (dash, floor or engine compartment) to meet performance and regulatory requirements related to body structures.
  • Must have a good understanding of stiffness, durability and strengths requirements as related to passenger vehicles and trucks.
  • Familiarity with design and development of lower body trim parts like carpet, insulators and fender protectors is desirable.
  • Job encompasses either new and/or current model programs plus continuous improvement by increasing design robustness or through warranty reduction of existing models.
  • Willing to work overtime as needed.
Job Duties:
  • Daily use of CAD to study and make designs, present proposals and release the new or improved designs.
  • Warranty reduction using root cause analysis techniques.
  • Extensive interaction with manufacturing, other design groups, assembly plants, styling, test groups and prototype technicians.
  • Variation and tolerance analysis at both component and system level.
  • Make presentations of ideas and studies to upper management.
  • Manage supplier to develop parts, meet cost, timing and quality targets.
  • Manage cost and weight of assigned parts to meet or exceed targets.
  • Daily interaction with manufacturing, other design groups, assembly plants, styling, test groups and prototype technicians.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Use of CAD system.
  • Proficiency with NX or I-DEAS is desirable.
  • Strong ability to visualize part or system and work in a totally digital environment through the development cycle until physical phase.
  • Work in a multicultural, multilingual environment, across several time zones.
  • Willingness to travel internationally.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to work overtime as necessary to complete job.
  • Experience making tolerance and variation studies.
  • Knowledge of GD&T.
  • Working knowledge of CAE.
  • Ability to handle multiple issues and tasks.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma process.
