Process Engineer

Job Summary:

The process engineer is responsible for up-scaling new products on the existing manufacturing machines, qualifying new or second source raw materials, consistently trying to optimize existing processes, and start-up of new equipment including tests to ensure product quality.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and be responsible for the scale-up and implementation of all new or second source raw materials in the plant that are initiated by operations or product development teams within the company. In this context being responsible for quality, efficiency, and safety.
  • Develop and implement a procedure to assess the earnings and benefits of submitted or self-developed continuous improvement ideas in order to follow the most beneficial ideas.
  • Provide input into projects and capital expenditures in extrusion, mixing, coating, and converting to enhance safety, quality and globally competitive production.
  • Set up of and follow up on implementation programs for new or optimized equipment.
  • Enforces all legal, plant and company rules with special emphasis on safety, quality and environmental rules, reporting nonconforming situations to the converting manager with recommended or executed corrective action.
  • Interact with customer as well as supplier representatives on process and quality issues which may require travel to their facilities.
  • Audit third party contractors on behalf of Sparta plant.
  • Work closely together with production, quality, scheduling, R&D and marketing on the above-mentioned tasks.

Qualifications:

• Two-year college degree or related field required; Four-year college degree preferred.
• (5) Five years maintenance and project management experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficient in MS Office applications such as Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word.
• Excellent communication, conflict management, problem-solving, decision-making, motivational and organizational skills required.
• Strong self-confidence and leadership skills required.
• ISO/TS 16949 knowledge helpful. Ability to become an internal auditor.

• Project work/investments, exceeding but not limited to $1Mio. per investment.
• Infrastructure and auxiliary production equipment such as RTO, heating, steam generator, air handling units etc.
• Machine/equipment downtime due to scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
• Maintenance and process engineering budgets.

• Well-developed project management, teamwork and leadership skills.
• Prioritizes work based on short and long term objectives.
• Successfully analyses and presents complex data to multiple levels of the organization.
• Experience in extruding, coating, mixing, and/or converting and web handling.

• Evaluate complex data and draw conclusions.
• Work in a fast-paced environment, while being able to make sound decisions.
• Work in international teams.
• Work with 3rd party contractors and machine vendors.
• Think strategically and see the big picture.

• Must be available and able to travel up to 10% to other locations including foreign travel
