Director of Business and Operations

ORGANIZATION: Battle Creek Public Schools

LOCATION: Battle Creek, MI

SALARY: $85,000 - $110,000

The Battle Creek Area Mathematics and Science Center (BCAMSC) provides Kindergarten through 7th grade science curriculum, materials, and training for teachers in the tri-county area as well as throughout the state of Michigan. The Center is also an accelerated mathematics and science high school and a K-12 mathematics and science outreach program for Barry, Branch, and Calhoun County School Districts. The Director of Business and Operations is responsible for the overall vision, direction and management of Cereal City Science. The primary roles of the position are to serve as the visionary leader including working collaboratively to create and implement the vision and strategies. The Director of Business and Operations will oversee, direct, and evaluate curriculum business. Other major responsibilities include staffing, budget collaboration and execution.

Position Responsibilities: 
• Builds and expands upon partnerships involving education, business and philanthropy.  
• Cultivates relationships with community fundraisers, organizations, companies, and agencies to assist in the advancement of the distribution center.
• Maintains high expectations for all Cereal City programming.
• Develops and implements a business and marketing plan with staff, PAC (Policy Advisory Committee) and BCPS (Battle Creek Public Schools).
• Directs and maintains community, state, and national partnerships.
• Develops forward thinking business strategies and analyses.
• Directs Cereal City Science Program, including marketing and multi-year financial projections.
• Communicates with and reports to the Battle Creek Public Schools Superintendent the condition of the facility, the status of programming, and factors influencing the success BCAMSC Distribution Center.
• Communicates and works with the PAC including coordinating quarterly meetings, preparing agendas, minutes and any follow-up issues from the meetings, facility updates, and status of programs.
• Collaborates with STEM Director and K-12 Director to communicate and work with PAC.
• Supervises the Distribution Staff, Maintenance Staff, Secretaries, Distribution Center Manager, and Warehouse Supervisor.
• Works collaboratively to develop and implement a plan to evaluate Cereal City Science business.
• Leads and coordinates process to develop a three year budget, annual budget, business and operating plan, marketing plan and performance goals.
• Ensures the organization operates within budget guidelines as well as the effective and efficient execution of the annual budget.
• Develops and maintains sound financial practices.
• Works closely with the Administrative Team to create sustained funding.
• Provide ongoing communication with Battle Creek Public Schools Superintendent, Board of Education, and PAC.  
• Works collaboratively with various stakeholders including numerous community groups and advisory committees.
• Publicizes the activities of the organization, program, and goals.
• Maintains an innovative and customer friendly website.
• Maintains close relationships with community leaders and partners to ensure connection with community needs.

Qualifications: 
• The position requires knowledge normally acquired through a Master’s Degree (M.A.) from a four-year college or institution in Mathematics, Science or business related field.
• Exposure to lean operations, six sigma, and/or quality management concepts preferred.
• Commitment to excellence and the implementation of best practices in business operations.
• Demonstrated record of accomplishment in the management and leadership of a comprehensive program.
• Demonstrated record of accomplishment in developing and implementing innovative programs.
• Leadership in educational administration and/or business and industry.
• Experience in developing and implementing multi-million dollar budgets.
• Experience in marketing, including development of marketing plans and materials.
• Experience with forecasting, preparation, launch and marketing of a product.
