Manager of Business Development

The Manager of Business Development will further develop Ilmor’s recreational powertrain business sectors, which includes the marine and automotive racing divisions.  Using technical, customer and organizational knowledge to influence and assist potential customers in applying our products/services to their needs, resulting in revenue generation. The successful candidate should utilize a consultative selling approach to build positive customer relationships to create value added solutions. In addition, the position provides input and participates in the marketing, market planning, and technical development of products and services.

Major Areas of Responsibility

Make Sales Contacts, Research Customer Needs And Develop Application Of Products And Services In An Effective Manner, Which May Include Activities Like, But Not Limited To

  • Determining market strategies & goals for each product and service.

  • Obtaining & coordinating data & information from staff, member groups, consultants and end users.

  • Researching and developing lists of potential customers.

  • Doing market research to determine customer needs & providing information to other staff.

  • Evaluating product & system marketability in terms of customers’ technical & manufacturing needs.

  • Following up on sales leads and making cold calls on potential customers.

  • Maintaining up-to-date understanding of industry trends and technical developments that effect target markets.

  • Establishing and building positive relationships with key decision makers, marine OEMs, marine dealers and subcontractors.

    Develop And Deliver Sales Presentations And Close Sales In a Professional And Effective Manner Which May Include Activities Like, But Not Limited To

  • Developing business and sales proposals for customers on technical products, services and systems.

  • Developing technical presentations.

  • Making sales presentations to customers, end users and consultants

  • Maintaining up-to-date awareness of activities, industry trends & government regulations.

  • Making regular sales calls to develop positive relationships and follow up on leads.

  • Establishing long-term, ongoing repeat relationships.

  • Acting to close deals & finalize contracts.

  • Meeting established sales quotas and revenue goals.

  • Assist Engineering, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Operations in identifying problems with products and services.

    Participate In Sales Forecasting And Planning In An Effective Manner, Which May Include Activities Like, But Not Limited To

  • Researching, developing & maintaining long & short range sales plans.

  • Maintaining opportunities in our computer system – updated as required and maintained for accuracy.

  • Maintaining an up-to-date awareness of strategic plans and procedures to coordinate market plans.

  • Work with Marketing to develop & regularly update promotional materials to target identified customers.

  • Monitoring, analyzing, & communicating monthly sales data to contribute to product system planning.

    Participate In Development Of New Products, Modification Of Existing Products, & Termination Of Ineffective Products In An Effective And Professional Manner, Which May Include Activities Like, But Not Limited To

  • Evaluating product & service marketability.

  • Recommending new technical products & product modifications or terminations.

  • Gathering, analyzing, and sharing customer technical information & feedback.

  • Working with other staff to identify future customer needs.

  • Determining customer satisfaction with products and services.

  • Maintaining an up-to-date working knowledge of newly developing technologies.

    Develop And Maintain Communications In a Cooperative And Professional Manner With All Levels Of Staff And Customers As Defined In The Company Policy Which May Include Activities Like, But Not Limited To

  • Communicates openly, honestly and constructively.

  • Treating all employees and customers with dignity, respect and courtesy.

  • Taking responsibility for and making every effort to resolve communication, trust and respect concerns and problems.

  • Asking for information needed to perform job responsibilities.

     Education & Experience 

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering/business, or an AS/AAS, or equivalent of 10+ years of related professional experience in consultative selling (marine/nautical or automotive preferred).

  • Proven record of successful interfacing with customers in an engineering or sales environment.
