Accountability Editor

We are looking for an Accountability Editor to join our Editorial and Strategic Support Teams! Is it you? If it is, then you’re detail-oriented, a strong writer and passionate about education policy. You’re comfortable translating policy “wonk-speak” to a general audience, because in addition to tracking state-level policy, you’re making sure that our writers–who are typically parents, students, and educators (not wonks), are comfortable writing about it.

And while teaching others how to write about it is great, you also enjoy writing about policy yourself. You love to identify trends in policy and share that with partners and the public. You’re comfortable connecting with policy and advocacy experts, and then connecting them to our writers. You enjoy reading research, white-papers, and legislation and determining whether a state is going to create an accountability system that is good for students, parents, and educators.

Finally (and perhaps most importantly) you’re committed to improving public education, and optimistic that we can make a difference with thoughtful and effective communications.

You’ll need at least a bachelor’s degree (master’s degrees in a related field preferred) and five years of experience with policy and writing. Experience in the K-12 education sector is strongly preferred, and people who understand and have experience working with communities of color and advocacy organizations will thrive in this role. You don’t need to be located in Chicago, but it’s a plus.

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience; a comprehensive benefits package is also included. Education Post is an equal opportunity employer.

If you think this is you, then send your application to jobs@educationpost.org right away. Make sure to include your resume, a cover letter and a writing sample tailored to this position. We’ll start looking at candidates immediately and will keep looking until we find the right person.
