Associate Kindergarten Teacher

Seeking teachers to start August 2017 for school year 2017-2018. There may be opportunities to start during this school year 2015-2016, depending on interest and availability. Please indicate in your cover letter if you are available to start this school year.

The Associate Teacher Fellowship is a selective one-year program designed for recent college graduates or career changers of all backgrounds. Teachers in this program share the responsibilities of a kindergarten classroom with a lead teacher while they develop their skills and receive a competitive salary and full benefits. We provide teachers in our Associate Program with extensive development and training as well as support all costs associated with obtaining a NYS Assistant Teacher Certification. The program allows Associate Teachers to rapidly increase their impact and forge a path to a lead position the next year.  

Position Summary

All our teachers share the undying belief that maximizing student achievement is their primary goal. Our teachers have a razor-sharp focus on the school’s mission and the drive to meet their key responsibilities:

  • Leading all scholars to gap-closing academic gains. Scholars must achieve mastery and advanced mastery of grade-level Common Core State Standards to succeed to and through college.

  • Establishing and maintaining a highly ordered classroom culture where scholars demonstrate respect, responsibility, caring, trustworthiness, fairness, and citizenship.   

Our teachers work relentlessly to achieve these challenging, mission-critical goals. Successful associate teachers:

  • Study, practice, and execute lessons that lead scholars to master daily standard-aligned objectives, faithfully using our rigorous, classical curriculum.

  • Collect and analyze academic and behavior data to pinpoint scholar needs. 

  • Collaborate in teams and with coaches to resolve challenges and implement instructional improvements driven by quantitative and qualitative data.

  • Proactively seek and implement feedback from team leaders and instructional coaches to improve their practice.

  • Support instruction, behavior management, classroom organization and administrative duties.

  • Demonstrated interest in education a plus but not required

  • Bachelor’s degree from a top college
