El Pomar Foundation Fellowship, Program Associate

Job Description

El Pomar Fellows are immersed in the complex and dynamic work of El Pomar Foundation, a $550 million private grant-making organization dedicated to bettering the lives of the people of Colorado.  The two-year full-time position provides recent college graduates with leadership development opportunities most people will not experience until late in their careers, if ever.

Each year, the Fellowship brings together a cohort of 8-10 talented and driven individuals from diverse backgrounds. Incoming Fellows arrive with varied career aspirations, but with critical commonalities: a connection to Colorado, a desire to lead, and a commitment to make a difference. The intense nature of the work, complimented with the opportunity to intentionally develop leadership and professional skills serves as a springboard as they transition into graduate school or to careers in the nonprofit, private or public sectors.

Fellows spend approximately 80% of their time on program management and 20% on leadership and professional development.

Program Responsibilities

The Fellows primary responsibility is to staff and direct the Foundation’s programs. Specific duties include:

  • Engage in the Foundation’s process of allocating $20 million to Colorado communities. Specifically, read and evaluate financial documents and grant requests, and provide grant recommendations
  • Serve as an liaison for one of the 11 regional councils and assist with strategic distribution of $200,000 in annual discretionary grants
  • Provide research, meeting facilitation, and community development support for regional councils
  • Conduct on-site community impact visits to assess the effectiveness and impact of El Pomar grants in the community
  • Research areas of interest to the Foundation to meet the ever changing needs of the state
  • Represent El Pomar Foundation at community events and programs throughout Colorado
  • Perform additional administrative duties as assigned
  • Program specific responsibilities include project management, budget development and oversight, and strategic planning

  • Personal Leadership/Career Development: Fellows have access to several behavioral instruments, to include Myers Briggs, TKI Conflict Management, Change Style Indicator, 360-feedback, and Strong Campbell Career Interest Inventory, as part of their personal development
