Technical Services Engineer - Steel/Foundry

Position Summary

Assists the Technology Manager in the development of new technology and products in order to expand the need for calcium carbide, while maintaining quality and safety standards consistent with their goals and objectives. This position will work closely with the outside Sales/Account Managers, as well as Production Engineering.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensures new designs and customer products meet Company standards and all governmental regulations (i.e. safety, environmental).
• Maintains compliance with local, state, and federal EPA regulations.
• Reviews quality standards insuring new products meet expectations.
• Participates in quality system management reviews.
• Promotes the Quality Policy among employees. Provides technical resources to maintain the quality management system.
• Meets with customers and develops positive relationships for long-term customer commitments.
• Reviews, discusses and interprets customers’ requirements for existing and new products.
• Analyzes customers’ needs determining modifications and changes needed to fulfill product requirements.
• Makes recommendations and suggestions to customers for modifications and improvements.
• Communicates with the Sales Department on the development of new products and the potential customer base. Works with Sales to provide Technical Training with customers on the product.
• Conducts in-depth research, reviews and analyzes technical literature and stays current on related issues and technical data.
• Provides technical information to the plants in improving design and product processes.
• Establishes positive relationships with customers and provides technical training when necessary.
• Provides employee training and education when appropriate.

Qualifications (education, experience, abilities)

• The position requires a four-year degree in engineering or related field with manufacturing experience; Metallurgy Degree and Experience in the Steel Industry Strongly Preferred
• This position requires effective communication skills both oral and written as well  as leadership skills to motivate employees to high performance.

Physical Requirements
• Position requires the ability to travel throughout the plant and customer locations, including walking up and down stairwells and inclines.
• Travel, via automobile and air required.

Work Environment
• Employee works primarily in climate controlled environment, occasionally exposed to areas of heat, cold, dust and noise.
• Normal protective equipment consists of safety glasses, steel toe work boots, and hearing protection.
