Advanced Engineering Intern


POSITION SUMMARY
This position is in BorgWarner’s Corporate Advanced Drivetrain Engineering group. This is a dynamic team environment that combines the best aspects of both research and production organizations. The Advanced Engineering department houses multiple disciplines (drivetrain, turbo, ICE technologies, thermal systems, and analysis-controls) and fosters an environment of teamwork and innovation that positively impacts the auto industry.
The Drivetrain Engineering Intern is charged with assisting the Drivetrain Engineering Team to develop and test advanced drivetrain components and systems. Advanced Drivetrain projects may involve integration of next generation transmission and torque management systems with electrification components into a demonstration vehicle. The Engineering Intern will assist with the design, analysis, test and development of the components, systems and demonstration vehicle. Advanced Drivetrain projects may involve benchmarking analysis of existing systems and documenting benchmarking results. Good writing and communication skills are required. The Intern must work well in a team environment and demonstrate good initiative.
 
Key Accountabilities
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of automobile transmission and all-wheel drive systems.
  • Completed course work in general math, and science and, depending on grade level, completed mechanical or electrical engineering courses.
  • Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate verbally and write fluently to describe vehicle powertrain systems.
  • Actively seeks collaboration opportunities with team members and works effectively in a team environment.
  • Technical responsibilities as an individual contributor include the following:
    • Create and design mechanical and/or electrical systems using computer design tools.
    • Procure, build, and develop these systems on bench, dynamometer, and vehicle.
    • Create test plans and perform validation of the systems.
    • Analyze data and report results.
  • Responsible for writing technical reports and communicating results.  
  • Conduct reviews on a periodic basis to report the status of your work.
