2017 Government Affairs Intern

At CoBank, our Government Affairs Intern assists with all aspects of CoBank’s Washington, D.C. government affairs efforts. This intern will have the opportunity to conduct legislative and regulatory analysis. In addition, this intern will have the opportunity to attend hearings, briefings, and other Capitol Hill events focused on agriculture, rural development, rural infrastructure, and the financial services industry. A typical project as a Governmental Affairs intern may include an in-depth analysis on legislative and statutory research within the Agriculture and Financial Services jurisdiction. CoBank interns learn real-life business skills and assist with a variety of projects that have impact on the bank’s operations. This is a paid position for undergraduate and graduate students working toward a degree in Political Science, Economics, Law, Business or related discipline.

In addition, various training courses are available throughout the summer and a temporary housing allowance is available for qualified interns.

This intern position is located in our Washington D.C. office.

Basic Qualifications
• High school diploma and 1-2 years relevant experience or education.
• Currently enrolled in and working toward a degree in Political Science, Economics, Law, Business or related discipline.
• Demonstrated skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications and other office equipment.
• Aptitude for learning other software applications.
• Ability to perform research across multiple systems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong written and verbal communications.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in agriculture, banking or financial services industry.
• Knowledge of cooperative principles and the desire to expand in this area.
