Assistant Teacher Child Care Before and After Care

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Child Care Director and in accordance with the mission and purpose of the Ann Arbor YMCA, the Offsite Assistant Teacher – Before and After Care assists the Lead Teacher in: guiding children through an age appropriate curriculum for ages 5 to 14 that develops self-help skills and instills the Y values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility; maintaining a thorough understanding and knowledge of the child care programming of the Ann Arbor YMCA and will assist the Lead Teacher in the daily upkeep of the classrooms and its contents.

LOCATION/HOURS:
Light of the World Academy at 550 E Hamburg St, Pinckney, MI 48169
Flexible schedule between the working hours of 6:45 -8:30 a.m. and 3-6 p.m.; M-F; must be available to work 20-25 hours per week.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.  At least one year’s experience of working with children and families  Must be able to learn and use YMCA specific software within 30 days of hire.  Must have physical examination, including satisfactory TB test six (6) months prior to beginning work or 30 days after required.  Must have clean record of child abuse and neglect, as required by the Department of Human Services of Michigan  A patient, high energy and goal oriented attitude is essential.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Helps establish and maintain daily classroom routines, as assigned by the Lead Teacher. Daily classroom routines include food preparation and clean up, following classroom schedules, and supporting the curriculum that the Ann Arbor YMCA provides. 2. Assists the Lead Teacher in planning and organizing activities and lessons, which would include centers, small and large group activities, and large motor movement activities and establishing and implementing transitions, and providing a balance of structure and choices for children. 3. Provide appropriate supervision of the children in the program at all times to ensure their safety 4. Communicate, maintain and model independent behaviors and offers guidance to promote physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development children 5. Read and respond to all YMCA communications including but not limited to email on a daily basis. 6. Attend professional development trainings that total to 16 clock hours per calendar year.
