Food Research and Development Intern

Food Research and Development Intern

As an intern in a 12-week paid internship, the student will work with the assigned on-site supervisor/mentor to create a plan for a meaningful internship experience. He/she will be assigned to work on a project related to egg processing, product development, or process improvement that has a meaningful impact to the business (e.g. new product innovation, cost savings, efficiency, or similar).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Impact Analysis Project(s):
    • Working with the Intern Mentor and Rembrandt leaders, researches, analyzes and summarizes findings and recommendations to a relevant business challenge or opportunity.
    • Presents project(s) to Rembrandt leadership as Internship capstone.
  • Hands-on experience:
    • Learns and participates in regular business activities of assigned department/site including but not limited to:
      • hands-on pilot plant processing of egg ingredients
      • experimental design
      • research on current products or processes including literature review
      • sample testing of functionality and analytical properties
      • applicability of the work to the business as a whole.  
  • Gains exposure to Senior Level Management including President, Executive Leadership Group and department head.
  • Participates in team and individual internship learning and development opportunities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required:

  • Coursework in Food Science or Food Engineering
  • An interest in the manufacturing, food processing, or agricultural industry
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail/organizational skills
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of people
  • Independent Self Starter /Team Player
  • Strong interpersonal skills/comfortable talking and interacting with others
  • Strong oral, written, and communication/presentation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred:

  • Past internship experience(s) in the food industry
  • Familiarity in a pilot plant setting (e.g. pasteurization, filtration, spray drying) a strong plus
  • Junior or Senior for B.Sc. or in M.S. program preferred
