Electrical Product Engineer

What’s on your career wish list?

  • Opportunity for hands-on work with large, sophisticated, complex machinery

  • A chance to flex your creativity

  • Take on increasingly larger and more complex projects

  • Chart your own career path with broad options available

  • Work on global teams while enjoying a small, collegial environment

  • See your product through from concept past delivery

No two days will be the same!  As Electrical Design Engineer at Harsco Rail, you will have all of this and more.  Working closely with engineers around the world, you will create the electrical system designs to work with mechanical and hydraulic systems, creating equipment to meet customer needs.

You’ll start with projects of limited scope and will have ongoing guidance from our more experienced engineers until you’re ready to take on more involved projects.

In this role, you’ll conceive, design, develop, and analyze machine designs and systems as well as develop methods to improve existing designs…and then support your new design all the way through manufacturing, delivery, and follow-up customer support.  You will improve existing designs by reducing costs and increasing robustness and reliability.  You’ll work on documentation for new products (schematics, wiring charts, bill of materials, etc.), and provide update reports, presentations, and design reviews.  In this role, you will lead projects that expand product offerings while meeting or exceeding quality and cost targets.  Once or twice a year, you’ll get to see your product in action by making field visits (up to 15% travel, globally).

You may work at your choice of our Ludington, MI or Fairmont, MN offices.

About you:

Our qualified candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electro-Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics.  Internship, specific course work, or work experience in design of electrical and/or electrical control systems is required.

Experience with, or knowledge of, AC motors, drives and power; and of DC power with distributed I/O modules would be helpful.  Because you’ll be interfacing across functions and with customers, good verbal and written communication skills are important.  You’ll need to be comfortable working in a matrix environment as part of a team.
