Visual Designer Intern

SUMMARY

NextGen America is currently seeking a full-time Visual Designer Intern to work in our San Francisco office for summer 2018, with the possibility of an extension into late 2018. This intern will support designers with campaigns by versioning out design assets and reviewing layouts for pixel perfection throughout the campaign. We hope they will also inspire the design team with new Adobe tips and techniques. College seniors or recent graduates with graphic design training are particularly encouraged to apply.

HOW YOU WILL BENEFIT

  • Paid: an intern will receive a stipend to support living expenses
  • Location: an intern will work out of the NGA headquarters in San Francisco's Financial District
  • Training and Development: an intern will work with leaders with years of experience in the climate movement and national and state politics as well as design expertise
  • Education: an intern can attend special lectures from various experts on climate issues, sustainability, and progressive political topics

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support designers with campaigns by versioning out existing look/feel and developing the rest of the asset sizes
  • Organize digital assets
  • Support designers by researching look/feel for new campaigns
  • Inspire the design team and create efficiencies by researching helpful Adobe shortcuts and techniques and sharing with the team
  • Experiment with new design techniques and share learnings with the team
  • Experiment with new aesthetics for email assets

Learning Outcomes:

1. Students will understand how to develop concepts for new campaigns
2. Students will receive one-on-one design feedback to further develop type and design knowledge
3. Students will learn how to design in a fast-paced environment
4. Students will gain experience communicating with departments in a large team
5. Students will learn how to work in a team environment and support colleagues

A stipend is $2500 / month for 40 hours work week

WHAT WE REQUIRE

  • Current seniors at accredited universities and colleges or recent college graduates majoring in Graphic Design
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Office, and Google Drive applications
  • Passion for taking political action to fight climate change, transition our country to clean energy, and stand up for progressive values and causes
  • Strong desire to obtain new skills and exposure to working in a professional environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines
  • Creative and flexible
  • Excellent team player

COMPENSATION

Interns are independent contractors to NextGen America and NextGen America offers a stipend which is commensurate with the number of hours committed to the Internship Program. Interns are required to commit to 40 per week starting with the summer 2018 internship.
