GOAL

Our Community Foundation Americorps* VISTA Hunger Volunteer and Sustainability Coordinator will establish best practices for sustainability in the Food Bank of the Eagle River Valley Warehouse and will coordinate all volunteers by organizing volunteer opportunities and communications.  The Americorps VISTA member will work directly with Our Community Foundation and help to establish an exciting new initiative, the Eagle River Valley Food Bank.

 

Job Duties The VISTA member will:

·     Coordinate, outline and research best practices in sustainability for community food banks. Research potential for achieving Actively Green status; prepare sustainability section of Eagle River Valley Food Bank Warehouse Handbook.

 

·     Coordinate and recruit volunteers for Eagle River Valley Food Bank. Maintain and track volunteer sign-up through volunteer software program, send monthly communications to volunteers, act as point person for volunteer communication, organize volunteer events.

·     Divert all materials produced or recovered by the Eagle River Valley Food Bank to the correct sources. Ensure compost and recycling program is efficient and compost is healthy. Train food bank staff and volunteers on compost, and recycling program best practices. Sort and prepare items collected through food recovery process for distribution to community, or into compost as needed. Assure all health and safety guidelines are met in regard to food recovery systems.

·     Establish the processes and relationships necessary so crops from the front range and western slope are donated to the Eagle River Valley Food Bank.

Research potential of gleaning process with local farms. Establish relationships with organizations and farms that work to reduce produce waste.

 

Terms: This is a full time one-year service position, working from the food warehouse in Gypsum.   Vehicle recommended; this position will accommodate school attendance during off hours

 

Program Benefits: Living allowance, training, vacation, sick and personal leave. Choice of Americorps Education Award or End of Service Stipend.
