Registration Internship

Position Overview:

The Registration Intern will develop a broad understanding of the operations of a Collections Management Department and gain practical experience in registration methods related to the care, display, and documentation of an art museum collection. Providing support to Crystal Bridges’ diverse team of collections management and registration staff, the Registration Intern will assist with the daily functions of the Collections Management Department, as well as carry out specific project-oriented duties. The ideal candidate is passionate about the care and preservation of art objects and has a strong interest in the field of museum registration and collections management.


Areas of Support:


  • Assist with collections information processing in museum databases including The Museum System (TMS), eMuseum, and ResourceSpace
  • Process research materials in order to enhance object files
  • Assist with examination, care, and documentation of the permanent collection
  • Assist with exhibition and installation processes
  • Assist with a week-long photography shoot of collection artworks
  • Projects:
    • Assist with a comprehensive inventory of artworks in the museum’s permanent collection.
    • Generate historical records for permanent collection gallery exhibitions in Museum’s TMS collections management database.
    • Assist with the documentation, condition reporting, and proper storage of artworks on paper
  • Assist with administrative tasks as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and at least two semesters of college level courses, preferably in areas of art, art history, history, or museum studies
  • Must be able to take direction and work in supportive role
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to perform tasks with professionalism and discretion
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of art and artist’s materials helpful

  • Physical demands: In the work environment described below, position requires verbal and written conversation with others, sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching and climbing. Position requires sitting at a desk and utilizing a computer for prolonged periods of time, good eye/hand coordination and good manual dexterity. Vision abilities required by the job include close vision. Position periodically requires standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Work environment: Work will be performed in an office environment and in museum spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Compensation


Internship positions provided by Crystal Bridges are generally unpaid. They are structured to provide interns with a professional experience relevant to the intern’s academic and/or professional goals and involve work, research, or other activities which are of value and beneficial to the mission of the Museum. However, to encourage greater access and participation for underrepresented segments of our society, and as a part of our Diversity and Inclusion initiative, stipends are available to students who identify as members of an underrepresented group.


  • $1,500-4,500 (depending on number of hours work per week and responsibility)



Additional Information

Crystal Bridges’ internship program currently requires that the internship be a prearranged and structured learning experience scheduled within a specific time-frame and pre-approved by the leadership of the Museum. An internship is performed under the direct supervision of Crystal Bridges’ staff. As a Crystal Bridges’ intern, you will not only expand your academic knowledge and improve your skills, but also apply both your knowledge and skills in practical ways. Crystal Bridges is happy to work with the selected candidate to provide an experience meeting the requirements for academic credit through their school.
