Environment, Health & Safety Co-op

We are seeking students working toward their bachelor's degree in environmental health & safety to join our 6-month coop program. Qualified candidates must be able to work full time from June to November 2018. Flexible with six-month time frame. 

Position is located in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Responsibilities:  

  • Participate in developing and implementing EHS programs to improve employee safety, equipment ergonomics, emergency response systems, and environmental efficiency.
  • Participate in departmental safety meetings and compliance activities.
  • Assist with process safety improvement projects, including use of lean and project management skills as required.
  • Investigate and contribute to the resolution of employee occupational safety injuries, environmental incidents, and property loss events.

Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled as a junior or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or health and safety.
  • Overall 3.0 GPA or above.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and to make decisions independently.
  • Ability to relate technical knowledge to job-related duties required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Resiliency and ability to adapt quickly.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills (minimum of one example in the last four years such as: school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor, etc.) or exceptional leadership of work projects.

Key Competencies:

Basic knowledge of industrial hygiene (IH) and engineering principles, understanding of the theory behind machine guarding and Lockout/Tagout electrical safety, knowledge of regulatory compliance laws, and computer skills. Demonstrates effective communication skills, capable of managing multiple projects, has strong training and interpersonal skills. Exhibits positivity, passion, integrity and responsibility.
