sTEam Leader
The Dwight-Englewood Lower School is seeking a Lower School sTEam Leader to champion the development and delivery of a comprehensive Preschool 3 through Grade 5 program in technology, engineering, and problem-solving and to support teachers in the incorporation of these skills into the academic program of the school. The sTEamLeader will provide expertise in the selection and use of technical and engineering tools in the context of a cutting-edge curriculum designed to develop technical fluency and the habits of mind essential to young innovators and problem solvers.
The sTEam Leader will co-staff the Innovation Incubator, our Lower School’s new space devoted to making, inventing, and problem-solving to provide a rich offering of activities intended to spark children’s imaginations and empower them as critical thinkers and problem-solvers.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support and model the spirit of the Mission and Foundation Documents of the Dwight-Englewood School in work with students, teachers, families, and administrators. Please refer to the Dwight-Englewood website to access these documents.
- Plan and teach classes utilizing instructional and classroom management methods to support and challenge students in this age-group.
- With the Research/Information Specialist, design a curriculum that incorporates the most current ideas in student innovation and problem solving.
- With Research/Information Specialist, design program and select equipment/materials for the Innovation Incubator.
- Serve as a resource for collaboration with colleagues.
- Continue to grow as a professional through professional development opportunities.
- Organize student, teacher and parent workshops and maintain an open schedule for drop-in activities.
The Lower School STEAM TEACHER will be able to:
- Create a learning environment for students in grades K-5 that incorporate STEAM and/or constructionist approaches to education.
- Develop curriculum that focuses on design, technology and engineering challenges.
- Inspire learning in the Innovation Incubator where student interests collide with diverse opportunities for creative and technical learning.
- Collaborate with LS teachers to ensure alignment of program goals with the LS curriculum.
- Provide training for teachers, thus strengthening faculty confidence, related to technology use.
- Provide “front-line” technical support to teachers and support for AV during LS assemblies
- Check out library books as needed
- Collaborate with US/MS Librarians Technology Integrator to ensure alignment of curriculum
- Conduct divisional supervisory duties and participate in the full faculty life of the Lower School
- Attend department, divisional and school-wide faculty meetings

Qualifications:
- Qualified candidates hold a Bachelor's degree and have relevant teaching experience. (Advanced degree preferred)
- Candidate should have a strong background in technology and sTEam
- programming and Makerspace coordination.
- Candidate should be familiar with national and state standards for information and technology literacy, including the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).
