The College of Arts & Sciences and the Center for STEM Research, Education, & Outreach at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) seek candidates for a Fellow position.  The Fellow will be a critical participant of the National Science Foundation funded project entitled “Development and Empirical Recovery for a Learning Progression-based Assessment of the Function Concept.”  This project represents a collaborative effort with SIUE, Educational Testing Service (ETS) and the Algebra Project.  The incumbent will participate in all aspects of research.  This will include learning progression development and revision, review of literature pertaining to teaching and learning the concept of function, task-development, conducting cognitive interviews with middle and high school students, transcription and data analysis, disseminating preliminary results at conferences, and manuscript preparation.  The Fellow will also assist with the design and delivery of teacher professional development focusing on at-risk students.  Additionally, the Fellow will assist in directing the work of a graduate research assistant.

 

Terms of Appointment

Full-time term, 12-month appointment with possibility of renewal

 

Salary

$45,600 Annually

 

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in mathematics education.  Demonstrated interest in quantitative and qualitative research methods and/or design and development research is also required.

-          Have a strong ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with adult collaborators and youth program participants,
