Associate Energy Data Analyst

Type/Duration of Appointment: Junior Professional Officer, 2 years 

Main Purpose
To assist Member States in elaborating their sustainable energy strategies by building capacity in Member States in the area of understanding the costs of nuclear energy, and through comparative assessment studies on the potential role and integration of different energy technology options.

Role The incumbent fulfils two principal roles: (1) analyst: collect, distil and analyse nuclear energy cost and techno-economic data; and (2) project member: develop data collection frameworks, collect and assess pertinent literature, set up simple or intermediate complexity cost models, use advanced statistical tools for cost parameter estimation and model calibration, analyse and interpret the results and write the ensue reports and publications.

Functions / Key Results Expected
  • Review and recommend PESS studies and indicators to be used to assess the economic competitiveness and sustainability of nuclear power, for evaluating energy policy options and strategies for integration of nuclear power with renewable energy.
  • Recommend components and develop data collection frameworks to analyse nuclear costs and techno-economic data to assist in preparing life cycle comparisons to other energy systems (shale gas, coal with CCS, renewables, etc.).
  • Identify elements for statistical models to analyse nuclear cost parameters and to quantify areas of cost uncertainty.
  • onduct comparative assessments of the costs, effectiveness and energy/environment/economic implications of various energy technology and policy options and draft reports for use within and dissemination outside the Agency.

Education, Experience and Language Skills
  • University degree in engineering, energy or environmental economics.
  • Experience in engineering, energy or environmental economics, with modelling and energy policy related experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in policy analysis and modelling, preferably 1 year at national and 1 year at international level.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of another official IAEA language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) an asset.
