Transit Planner (Entry-Level)

The Central Transportation Planning Staff (CTPS) of the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is seeking an entry-level transit planner. This individual will be involved in a variety of projects, which could include transit planning, fare studies, Title VI analysis and reporting, suburban-mobility studies, capital-investment studies, first- and last-mile studies, environmental-justice analyses, and surveys.

 

Qualified candidates must have:

  • A master’s degree in transportation planning, urban/regional planning, engineering, or a closely related field
  • One or more years of experience in transportation planning, including transit
  • Strong analytical skills, both qualitative and quantitative
  • Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel and/or database skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex quantitative and qualitative information into concise, well-organized narratives
  • The ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects while adhering to deadlines
  • An interest in transportation policy issues

 

Skills in the following areas are desirable, but not required:

  • Project management
  • Geographic information systems
  • Public process
  • Data visualization
  • Knowledge of the Boston region and MBTA
