Junior High Social Studies Teacher

Day-Star School is offering an opportunity to teach Junior High Social Studies to 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students. Our preference is for prospective employees to have a teaching degree, but we are open to hire graduates with other degrees. We offer support and guidance to employees without prior experience. The student body at Day-Star is 98% native Hondurans who are learning English as a second language. The staff is comprised mostly of Hondurans, the majority of whom are also bilingual. The owners of Day-Star are North American who have been working in Honduras since 1980.

A typical work day begins at 7:30 AM and ends at 2:50 PM. The daily workload is comprised of six classes. There are also two hours for planning, a breakfast break and a lunch break.

The contract for the job begins in August 2018 and ends June 2019. It includes 14 salaries of 14,000 Lempiras and a housing allowance of 6000 Lempiras. The current exchange rate is 23.75 Lempiras to 1 U.S. dollar. The salary in dollars comes out to approximately 850 US Dollars per month. The salary we offer allows the teachers to live comfortably and be able to travel and get to experience many parts of Honduras and the countries around us. What we offer is a great opportunity to gain some teaching experience while being able to live abroad.

We are located in Juticalpa, Honduras. The city has a population of about 80,000. It is located approximately 100 miles east of the capital city of Tegucigalpa. The actual size of the city is relatively small making it very easy to walk to and from school, the market, and the supermarket. The climate is warm all year round with a rainy season and a dry season. Temperatures average in the 80’s. The primary economic activities are farming, ranching, and small businesses. Juticalpa is an area for outdoor activities, there are many hiking areas as well as several national parks. People are friendly and helpful.

• Maintain discipline in the classroom

• Fill out necessary grading forms
