Summer Day Camp Teen Director- Seasonal - (Room & Board Included!)

This position is in charge of the Teen Program for campers aged between 13 and 18. This includes direct supervision of the Teen Counselors throughout the summer. The ideal candidate will be comfortable communicating effectively and professionally with parents, working directly with registrars, and working with groups when needed. They should be role-models for the children exemplifying the 5 Core Values of YMCA of the Rockies; Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have at least one year experience working at a residential or day camp
  • Experience working with children required
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Must be working towards or hold a degree in recreation, education, or related field
  • Possess excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to plan, lead, organize, and implement program activities
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • Ability to work with little direct supervision
  • Fluent in speaking, writing, and reading English
  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, swimming, team building activities, campfires, skits, and physical games

ESSENTIAL FUNTIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Responsible for overseeing and managing the Teen staff and programming
  • Assist in planning and implementing of Day Camp Staff Training
  • Assist in planning, implementation, and evaluation of Day Camp programming
  • Assist in evaluation of Day Camp staff throughout the summer
  • Manage a budget
  • Assist in maintaining YMCA, ACA, and Social Services Child Care Center standards
  • Identify and respond to camper behavior issues
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance
  • Understand and follow all emergency procedures associated with day camp
  • Understand and follow all safety guidelines for day camp
  • Clear communication with parents about camper's experiences at day camp
  • Ensure that day camp sites are kept clean, organized, and free of litter
  • Promote a cooperative, positive, and problem-solving environment at all times
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a diverse environment
  • Currently possess, or are willing to get, Wilderness First Aid and CPR/First Aid certification
  • May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in various forms
  • Ability to work up to 40 hours weekly
  • Must have clean driving record with three or more years driving experience
  • Must meet acceptable criminal background check standards
  • All other duties as assigned

COMPENSATION

This is a seasonal, hourly (based on 40 hours/week) position, paying $270/week*, with employee perks including:

  • *Returners receive a $0.50/hour raise making the weekly salary $290/week for returning staff
