Assistant Principal - Middle School

TITLE:                           ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL – FREEPORT MIDDLE SCHOOL                   

QUALIFICATIONS:      Type 75 Administrative Certification required.

REPORTS TO:              Principal

 

 

 

JOB GOAL:                 

Primary responsibility is in the improvement of instruction. The majority of work time shall be spent curriculum development and staff development while managing the assigned school so as to promote the educational development of each student.

 

Performance Responsibilities:

General Administrative

·      Assume all administrative responsibilities and duties delegated to this position by the

principal of the Middle School, the Superintendent of Schools, and the Board of          Education.  Such duties and responsibilities will extend to all activities of the Middle School.

·      In the absence of the principal, discharge the duties of the principal;

·      Participate in the Faculty Council;

·      Serve as consultant to the principal in establishing goals and education directions;

·      Assist in the selection of instructional and support personnel;

·      Represent the school at community functions and organization meetings;

·      Work with Parents Support Group on special projects;

·      Develop the master schedule;

·      Direct the scheduling and grade reporting system;

  • Generate student schedules and report cards
  • Make and record student schedule changes
  • Serve as consultant to the guidance counselors regarding individual student scheduling
  • Coordinate building supervision by staff
  • Develop and coordinate special daily schedules
  • Coordinate the ordering and distribution of textbooks and instructional materials
  • Communicate custodial and maintenance needs to appropriate personnel
  • Supervise attendance office operations
  • Interpret and communicate school programs to parents

Instructional Program

·      Assist in the curriculum development process;

o  Serve on curriculum committees

o  Assist in the formulation of new programs

o  Assist in the implementation and evaluation of curriculum programs

Student Services

·      Conduct the orientation program for new students;

·      Supervise the registration of new students;

·      Compile the Middle School Curriculum Guide;

·      Assist in the leadership, coordination and supervision of extra-curricular programs;

·      Supervise extra-curricular events as assigned;

·      Assist teachers with student conduct problems;

·      Arrange for parent conferences as needed;

·      Participate in conferences with parents and teachers as needed;

·      Assist the Dean of Students with the direct administration of the Discipline Policy as needed;

·      Work with the counselor and/or dean on particular student problems;

·      Utilize the services of community and special agencies for the benefit of students and the school;

·      Generally supervise the students throughout the day.

Personnel Services

·      Evaluate staff;

·      Counsel teachers in matters regarding professional improvement;

·      Consult with the principal regarding teaching assignments;

·      Communicate formally and informally with the staff on a variety of subjects as needed.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:          Twelve (12) month position. Salary and work year shall be in accordance with the administrative salary programs as approved by the Board.
