People Operations Internship

Internship Overview

Community Solutions (CS) is looking for a summer intern to support our people operations work. The intern will work part-time, 15-20 hours per week, starting in early June through the end of the summer. This internship offers a $1,000 stipend for the summer as well as multiple training and educational opportunities.

CS aspires to be the "Google" of the nonprofit world when it comes to people operations and internal systems. The Operations Team works towards creating an environment at CS in which our staff have the best support possible to grow, thrive, and seamlessly carry out their work on ending homelessness and the conditions that create it. The People Operations Intern will support the Ops Team in carrying out a number of creative projects, as well as helping with routine financial management and administrative tasks. The internship is perfect for a student who is extremely tech-savvy, has excellent communications skills, and is interested in learning about the internal workings and management of a young, innovative nonprofit.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Brainstorm potential projects to help enhance our new CS Intranet which contains important CS staff HR and Operations information. We currently use Google Sites for our Intranet platform and are looking to continue developing it with exciting new features.

  • Identify areas of improvement and work with operations team to increase employee experience satisfaction.

  • Assist with the creative process and development of how-to videos and other media posted on the Intranet.

  • Support the writing of internal newsletters, which may include updates on the activities of different teams, information on general health and wellness, links to articles on innovations in the nonprofit sector, etc.

  • Help with the processing of bill payments and reconciling of company credit cards.

  • Support our People Operations’ projects which may include diversity hiring, professional development, and a seamless onboarding experience.

  • Assist with writing, editing and layout of policy and procedures documents.

  • Support general office duties and look for ways to make internal operations efficient and productive.


Skills Needed

  • Extremely tech-savvy; web development skills a huge plus

  • Marketing and video editing skills

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills

  • Strong time-management, organizational and research skills

  • Quick learner with the ability to self-motivate

  • Highly organized and attentive to detail

  • Receives and relays criticism constructively


Trainings and educational opportunities offered during internship

  • Organization-wide orientation for summer interns

  • Community Solutions’ Core Competency trainings

  • Lunch meetings with CS employees, paid for by Community Solutions, to learn about the employees’ roles within the organization, the projects/programs they oversee, and how their work contributes to the CS mission

  • Shadowing CS employees in meetings and completion of projects

  • Participation in team meetings and all-staff meetings

  • Regular check-ins with supervisor for feedback and guidance


Work environment

  • The People Operations Intern will work from our central office in Manhattan, as well as virtually at times.
